Camera Less animation

Animation is not only made using the trick of camera and a series of still images. The thaumatrope is a way of making an animation through the illusion of movement. The thaumatrope was an 19ty century Victorian toy which was invented by John Ayrton Paris in 1825. The thaumatrope is made with two images, the idea is to trick the eye in to thinking that the images are moving in to one (museum of the history of science, 2014).

I made my own thaumatrope using only a piece of card and a pencil. Here are the images I used for my camera less animation.

 I decided to also use the bird in a cage idea, by drawing the bird on one side of the card and the cage on the other. I folded the card down the middle and then attached the card to a pencil. By rolling the pencil in your hand it gives the illusion that the bird moves on out and of the cage.
